Ripple and its partners have been innovating Outcome Harvesting + Attitude Change since 2018. Here’s why.
Outcome Harvesting, originally developed by Ricardo Wilson-Grau, is especially well-suited for monitoring and evaluating social change initiatives in complex contexts. Unlike other approaches, it doesn’t rely on preconceived plans or the ability to predict specific results. Instead, it empowers program teams to identify, verify, and analyze the outcomes to which they’ve already contributed. These ‘outcomes’ are observable changes in the behavior of individuals, groups, organizations, or institutions. Behavior changes are truly the building blocks of impact.
At the same time, there are some programs in which attitudes also matter a great deal. For example, attitudes play a crucial role in building relationships and solidarity across diverse communities, advancing gender equity or promoting climate action. Achieving outcomes may involve the inner transformation of unseen perceptions, assumptions, values, etc. In cases where attitudes are essential for achieving program results, Ripple integrates Attitude Change into Outcome Harvesting to better understand the process of “change inside and out.”
